Sir Francis Grant was a Perthshire-born painter of portraits and country sports. He received no formal training as an artist. Through his second marriage to the Duke of Rutland’s niece he was introduced to the Leicestershire hunting fraternity and a royal commission ensured his success as a portrait painter. Sir Francis died at Melton Mowbray.
